Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan joint defence agreement signals closer cooperation

Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have committed to closer military cooperation in a joint defence agreement modelled on NATO's Article 5, under which an attack on one member is considered an attack on all. The deal comes as regional countries increasingly look to each other for security following Israel's war on Gaza, its strikes on several countries in the region, and the renewed conflict with Iran. For Turkiye, which already fields NATO's second-largest army and one of the world's fastest-growing defence industries, the pact is a major strategic gain, expanding its reach into the Gulf and South Asia and opening access to new financial resources through a joint weapons programme.
