Pakistan's Interior Minister has held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as part of mediation efforts to end the US-Iran conflict, amid signs that Tehran and Washington may be moving closer to an agreement. Qatar has said that talks between Iran and Oman on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz are at an advanced stage. In an interview with Al Jazeera, former senior US diplomat Alan Eyre said Iran and Oman have agreed on a temporary traffic separation scheme for 60 days, with ships passing under Iranian control, but that the US has a "veto" and the plan will not be implemented without Washington's agreement. Eyre said the main issue is "sequencing", with Iran wanting to "front-load the benefits" before implementing the deal, while the US has the same concerns about trust. He advised the administration to "take the less bad deal" and accept Iranian sovereignty over the strait to get traffic moving, warning that "the pain hasn't started yet" and serious economic pain could be felt in about a month.
