The attack, which also injured at least 33 people, is one of the most intense aerial attacks on Ukraine’s capital since the start of the war. Homes, a school and a children’s medical centre were among the buildings damaged as explosions were heard across the city centre. A shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles means that Ukraine is struggling to defend itself from attack by high-speed ballistic weapons, which can arrive within minutes of an air-raid warning. Earlier this month the air force decided to stop announcing how many ballistic attacks had been launched, citing security concerns.
