Dutch court weighs trade ban on goods from illegal Israeli settlements

27/08/2026-07:20 27/08/2026-07:30 חדשות قناة Al Jazeera דיווח

The Israel Product Centre in the Netherlands has taken the Dutch state to court over a trade ban on goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The centre says the ban is discriminatory and violates EU free-trade rules. The Dutch government says the measure is necessary to avoid supporting Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian land through economic activity. The centre rejects that argument and accuses the government of criminalising Jewish life. Israel has also announced plans to expel two Dutch diplomats over what it calls anti-Israel measures. A court is expected to rule in three weeks on whether the ban will take effect, potentially making settlement imports illegal from September 22. Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports from The Hague.
