DR Congo Ebola outbreak: Health workers vaccinated as virus spreads

28/08/2026-06:09 28/08/2026-07:35 חדשות قناة Al Jazeera דיווח

Frontline health workers in Kisangani are being vaccinated as the Democratic Republic of the Congo battles its worst-ever Ebola outbreak, which has killed more than 2,500 people since May. The surge is driven by the Bundibugyo strain, for which no approved vaccine or treatment exists; the shots being deployed are licensed for a different strain, leaving their effectiveness uncertain. Nearly 30 percent of doses are being used in a clinical trial, while the UN warns that political attention and resources are lagging behind the crisis on the ground.
