Nepal floods leave families in the US waiting for news of missing relatives

Nepali families in the United States are anxiously awaiting news of relatives missing after a catastrophic flash flood triggered by a glacial collapse killed at least 900 people and left nearly 5,000 unaccounted for. In Virginia, home to America's third-largest Nepalese community, Krishna Sharma's wife has lost contact with five relatives who were travelling to Hindu pilgrimage sites. Nepal has appealed for international assistance, with the US pledging over $3m in aid, as officials warn that 360sq km of debris-covered terrain is hampering rescue efforts.
