Saudi-based academic and political analyst Khaled Batarfi has said Riyadh resisted responding to Houthi attacks until the Yemeni group attacked civilian targets, including Mecca and Medina. “That was not acceptable,” Batarfi told Al Jazeera from Jeddah. The analyst said Saudi Arabia cannot be expected to act alone but that other countries in Europe and Asia must respond to Houthi attacks disrupting marine traffic in the Strait of Bab al-Mandab. “They have to carry their responsibility, and some countries have begun condemning the Houthis and offering support,” he added.
