This project takes place in Meiwa, a quiet town just north of Tokyo, surrounded by agricultural fields and one of the last remaining pockets of historic woodland in the area. While most of the town has gradually shifted toward residential development, this forested site (representing barely 0.1% of Meiwa’s total land area), carries extraordinary cultural and ecological value. People are believed to have lived here since the Sengoku Period, over 400 years ago, and remnants from the Edo Period, including traditional warehouses and mature trees, remain. When the former owner decided to leave the area, the land faced a fami* risk: subdivision, clearing, and erasure. Instead, a different future was imagined. Prepare yourself to enter one of the most eye-pleasing garden transformations. Prepare yourself to experience one of the most ancient gardening traditions. We know that you’ll be amazed.
