Alex Honnold has become the first person to free solo climb Taipei 101, scaling the 508-metre skyscraper without ropes or a harness in just over 90 minutes. The ascent, the highest free solo climb of an urban structure in history, was streamed live on Netflix with a 10-second delay. Thousands gathered in Taiwan's capital to watch, whilst critics labelled the event voyeuristic and irresponsible given Honnold is a father of two. The 40-year-old climber, who rose to fame after conquering Yosemite's El Capitan in the 2018 documentary Free Solo, trained for three months ahead of the attempt. Al Jazeera's David Stokes reports.
