A colossal Cold War ghost is about to surface, only this time, it’s being born on a workshop floor. In this project, JF 88 will craft a 1.5-meter Typhoon-class RC submarine, which will rise from nothing but raw foam, fiberglass, metal, and stubborn patience until it becomes a working underwater machine that can truly dive. It all begins with a rough styrofoam mould, wrapped in tape like a temporary skin, then quickly escalates into a gritty composite build where layers of fiberglass are laid down, hardened, sanded, and reshaped until the hull looks like a real warship’s body. Every stage feels like the creation of a hermetic system, aggressive sanding dust filling the air, and the hull finally being split open like a giant capsule to reveal the inside of the beast. In the end, the finished submarine glides across the surface, then slowly, deliberately slips beneath the water, holding its trim like a real vessel. And there’s no pretending here: this Typhoon doesn’t just look like a submarine. It behaves like one. How to make an RC boat my own way Youtube: youtube.com
