Syrian government forces have taken control of the al-Tanf military base, after the withdrawal of US troops. An estimated 200 US troops have been redeployed from the base, after nearly 10 years of control. At one point, about 2,000 American military personnel were stationed there. The remaining US troops have been redeployed to another base known as Tower 22, near the demilitarised zone on the border between Jordan and Syria.
