Kharg Island, located about 25 kilometres off Iran’s southern coast, is the backbone of the country’s oil export infrastructure. Nearly 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports pass through the island, with around 1.5 million barrels shipped daily. The island functions as a major oil terminal, equipped with long jetties and deep surrounding waters that allow supertankers to dock safely before transporting crude through the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz towards Asian markets, particularly China. Al Jazeera's Julide Ayger explains the significance of Kharg Island. Subscribe to our channel: bit.ly
