Investors are shifting from risk to what one analyst describes as weeks of “misplaced optimism” amid deep uncertainty over the war. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has warned the conflict’s impact will worsen the longer it drags on, urging clarity on its objectives. Asian markets opened sharply lower: Japan’s Nikkei is down about 3.5 percent, South Korea’s Kospi around 3 percent after deeper earlier losses, and Hong Kong and Australia roughly 1.5 percent weaker. Governments are scrambling to cushion the blow from surging energy prices. Australia plans a three month cut to fuel excise, while South Korea may restrict private vehicle use if oil tops $120 a barrel. Al Jazeera’s Patrick Fok reports from Singapore.
