Iran's military warns 'security for all or none' as US naval blockade threat looms

13/04/2026-13:41 13/04/2026-13:50 חדשות قناة Al Jazeera דיווח

Iran's Joint Military Headquarters has issued a strong message that in case of any security threat, "it is going to be either for all or for none," adding that vessels affiliated with the enemy have "no right" to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, with tough repercussions promised if they approach. The new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has announced a "new management" over the strait as Iran seeks to use the waterway as a strategic leverage point, including plans to impose transit fees on ships. Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a social media post that talks in Pakistan were the "most extensive at the highest level in 47 years," with Iran engaging in good faith, but when the parties were "inches away from a memorandum of understanding," Iran encountered "maximalism, shifting goalposts and blockade," concluding "zero lessons were learned." Several sticking points remain, including Iran's nuclear dossier and its highly enriched uranium stockpile, the status of the Strait of Hormuz, a ceasefire on the Lebanese front, security assurances, Iran's ballistic missile programme, sanctions relief and frozen assets.
