UK prime minister Keir Starmer will co-host a Paris summit with French president Emmanuel Macron as nations seek a post-war plan to protect shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, with any initiative described as purely defensive and separate from the fighting. Amid fears Iran may have laid mines and with no British minesweepers in the area, the International Monetary Fund says the UK will be the hardest-hit G7 economy from the Iran war’s fallout, warning that further escalation could worsen the outlook.
