Iran warns of renewed war as US accused of stalling talks, experts say

03/05/2026-18:23 03/05/2026-18:35 חדשות قناة Al Jazeera דיווח

Al Jazeera hosted a panel discussion on the Iran-US standoff with Mostafa Khoshcheshm, Professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Tehran, and Abdulla Banndar Al Etaibi, Assistant Professor of International Affairs at Qatar University in Doha. Khoshcheshm said Iran sees the US as not serious about talks, accusing Donald Trump of making “maximalist demands” and warning that US military deployments suggest a recurrence of wars. He said Iran wants “durable, guaranteed peace”, has set a 30-day deadline for diplomacy, and views enrichment rights and US troop withdrawal as non-negotiable. He argued Gulf states have allowed their territory to be used as “hostile platforms” against Iran. Al Etaibi said both sides are applying maximum pressure with no real commitment to talks, creating a diplomatic stalemate. He said Iran’s demands undermine Gulf sovereignty, accused Tehran of prolonging negotiations, and questioned internal unity within Iran. The discussion highlighted deep divisions over regional security and sovereignty, with the deadlock raising the risk of renewed war. Subscribe to our channel: bit.ly
