At least one killed, 21 wounded in car bomb explosion in Syria’s Damascus

A soldier has been killed and several others injured in a double explosion in the Syrian capital Damascus, near a building linked to the defence ministry. The incident took place in central Damascus where security forces say an improvised explosive device was discovered near an armaments building storing weapons and ammunition. While units were attempting to defuse it, a second explosion reportedly went off in a parked vehicle nearby. Security sources say at least two explosive devices were involved, and gunfire was heard following the blasts. The Ministry of Defence says the number of wounded has risen to more than a dozen, including civilians. No group has claimed responsibility, but Syria’s security situation remains volatile, with ISIL previously carrying out attacks in the capital and elsewhere in the country.
