Foreign ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia are meeting in Cairo to discuss a number of regional issues. Top of the agenda was the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the US and Iran. The ministers viewed it as a constructive step toward de-escalation. They stressed on the need for a swift conclusion to the next phase of negotiations. They also discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Hussein Haridy, a former senior Egyptian diplomat who previously served as ambassador to Pakistan and Spain, tells Al Jazeera that Egypt and key regional states back the US-Iran MoU, see the 60-day window as crucial to avoid renewed war, and link regional security to easing Palestinian suffering and advancing a political solution for Palestine.
