The US–Iran memorandum of understanding on the Strait of Hormuz is set to expire, after a 60‑day period meant to halt military action and allow talks that have failed to reach a deal. Washington now increases economic pressure through sanctions and a naval blockade, while Iran links secure shipping to sanctions relief, frozen assets and wider regional demands.
